OMAHA, Nebraska (Reuters) -Berkshire Hathaway Vice Chairman Greg Abel said on Saturday that "keeping the lights on" is no longer a priority for the conglomerate's utilities when the threat of wildfires becomes excessive. Abel spoke at Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting, as the conglomerate's PacifiCorp utility defends against a slew of litigation over wildfires in Oregon and northern California.
CEO Warren Buffett talked about two transactions regarding Berkshire Hathaway Energy. Buffett was asked about the times when Berkshire bought stakes in Berkshire Hathaway Energy from Berkshire executive Greg Abel and the estate of Walter Scott, a former Berkshire director who died in 2021. The purchase of the 1% stake from Abel was in 2022 at an implied valuation for BHE of about $87 billion.
